What is the difference between alkaline and carbon batteries?

The electronic clock usually uses one of the No. 5 batteries. The electronic watch uses a button-type silver oxide battery (1.55V). Remote controllers usually use two 7-cell batteries (also with a 5th battery). Ordinary cameras (films) generally use two button silver oxide batteries to display the exposure, while automatic filming uses two batteries of the fifth; digital cameras (DC) commonly use nickel metal hydride batteries or lithium batteries, dry batteries are not Suitable for DC machines.


The earliest practical battery to enter the market was zinc-manganese dry batteries. As early as 1860, the Frenchman Leclanche invented the acid Zn-Mn battery prototype, so this battery is also called Leclanche battery. Its outer shell is a zinc tube as a negative electrode, and the center of the battery is a graphite rod as a positive electrode conductive material, the positive electrode region is a powdered manganese dioxide and carbon powder surrounding a graphite rod, and the negative electrode region is a paste of ZnCl2 and NH4Cl mixture.


Alkaline zinc-manganese batteries began to enter the market after the 1950s. In recent years, acidic zinc-manganese batteries are being replaced by more expensive alkaline zinc-manganese batteries in the Chinese market. The electrolyte of the alkaline zinc-manganese battery is KOH.

 

The structure of the alkaline battery is completely opposite to that of the acid battery. The center of the battery is the negative electrode, zinc is in powder form, the positive electrode area is in the outer layer, is a mixture of MnO2 and KOH, and the shell is a steel tube. Alkaline zinc-manganese batteries overcome the disadvantages of acid battery storage time and voltage instability, but are still disposable batteries.


Both have the same voltage, all of which are 1.5V, but the same volume of alkaline battery has a larger capacity and is more suitable for large current discharge.
