Thailand's CEBA hybrid battery market
Daimler ag's mercedes-benz unit, which will start operating a battery plant in Thailand in early 2019, makes batteries at just one plant in Germany but plans to expand its battery assembly plants to six in the next few years: three in Germany and one in the United States, China and Thailand. In 2017, 40% of mercedes-benz's sales in Thailand will come from plug-in hybrids, with a high share of the Thai electric vehicle market. In addition to Mercedes, BMW will also build a battery plant in the Thai city of rayong, its fourth battery plant outside Germany, the United States and China. BMW now assembles four plug-in hybrids in Thailand and will sell 1,300 in 2017. Toyota also plans to make batteries in Thailand as early as 2020, building the first fully owned battery plant outside Japan.
