Toyota's annual sales in Mexico in the first half of 2017 rose from several hundred to 7,193, a 10% increase over the same period in 2016.According to the Mexican association of automobile manufacturers, the Toyota prius was the top seller in Mexico in 2017, beating vw Passat, kia and Toyota camry.


Following the prius's victory, Toyota stepped up its efforts to introduce a second hybrid, the Toyota prius C, to Mexico.Toyota plans to sell 10,000 hybrid cars in Mexico in 2018, with a total sales of 105,464 vehicles in 2017, but lexus has not sold in Mexico.


Hybrid cars are a move by Toyota to boost its share of the Latin American market.Sales of Toyota and lexus vehicles in Latin America rose from about 322,000 in 2012 to 419,000 in 2017, while market share rose from 5.3% to 9.5%.Nissan, Volkswagen and general motors are also aggressively pushing sales of hybrid cars.
